The Elephant Nose

So we learned...after Cole's first dentist appointment that he has 2 cavities. Yes, I am a BAD mom. I couldn't even believe it. He brushes twice a day. Both times to the dentist Chris (SuperDad) took Cole so Chris was much more comfortable with this revelation of cavities in my 5 year old's mouth than I was....Chris also had a therapy session with the dentist about turning 30. It's a new dentist office and the dentist is a very nice younger guy so Chris and he bonded over our son's cavities. I on the other hand was horrified to learn Cole has cavities. I think I am failing already as a mother....

So today was the day. The day to fix the problem. Here is Cole with the elephant nose on.

Chris reported back to me (he's at the dentist right now as I type this...
the miracle of cell phones and Blackberry's)

Cole just told the nurse, "I am BRAVE!" "Very BRAVE!" and then
"I speak Japanese...I can't read Japanese...but I speak it!"

I'm glad his first visit to the dentist for cavities is such a positive experience. This dentist is specifically for kids and they are doing a great job. According to Chris, Cole is having a great time.

The other events of the last few weeks are below. Never a dull moment.

The kids had a parade at school for President's Day so we loaded up Carter and went. We lucked out that Chris was off work as well so he was able to attend. It lasted about 5 minutes but we were glad to see Cole in his special hat. Here is Carter exploring the lunch room. He was pretty much running around the room looking at everything he could as fast as he could. It was so funny.

Dress Up Time.
Cole: UltraMan
Carter: SpeedRacer

Pine Wood Derby Time.
Chris even took a day off of work to complete the car with Cole. It's a blue Subaru.

Carter is here preparing for the summer and getting his swim gear in order.....

Finally, Cole's class made a quilt and here's Cole's block. The theme was "I feel loved when...."

Cole: "I feel love when I kiss my mommy!"

Pretty much sums it up....

Three little monkeys sitting in a tree.....

And a story from Cole:

Once upon a time there was a guy. And he sang a ton of songs. And then he drank alot of wine and then but he didn't get drunk. Then he played guitar music. When he played guitar music it was really loud and really bad. Then he went home. He got changed into his regular clothes and he went to a store called Wal Mart. And he got alot of groceries. He got 350 groceries. Then he went home and kissed his wife. Then there was a show tonight fo him to sing. He played more bad music. It was really getting late and he said I wish I'm going to be 99 years OLD! And then it was morning. And the end.

and the inspiration for this story:

The one and only Jimi Hendrix....Chris believes Jimi may possibly be his father....and I'm not kidding. (sorry Kathy!)

So after Cole came home with that lovely vibrant story we learned a few things and Cole promised us a few things.

#1 Cole won't be discussing who is drunk or not drunk at school any more.

#2 Cole is brilliant. He picked out Jimi Hendrix's picture from a pile of magazine clippings.

One of Chris' proudest moments ever.

Exciting events!

This week was especially special. My dad was ordained as a Deacon and is nearing the end of his program at Berkeley in California. Before we get to all that though...here is Cole opening his
Valentine from Grandma and Grandpa Wyllie.
Side note:  (Grandma Kathy fills the cards with confetti for whatever holiday the card is for..... so naturally Valentines Day would be heart confetti....we only made the mistake of opening a card from the Wyllie bunch in the car...once.....now...we always open them at the table....Cole was very excited.)

And proof of the confetti......
(the best part according to Cole)

So Thursday night we went to Pocatello because my Dad was ordained a Deacon of the Episcopal church. Chris got home from work at 5:45 so I had the kids ready to go and we left as soon as Chris could change out of work clothes into his nice clothes....here are the boys as we are waiting for Chris to come home. Cute cute.

Here we are at the church. I kept taking photos and I think I was annoying people. It probably wasn't the "proper" thing to do...the man sitting in the chair is the Bishop of Idaho.
I did take some video but I need to make some adjusts to it before I post it online.
I held my camera at a strange angle and I need to fix it and will post the video after I have done so.

(This is probably because I was 1/2 way holding Cole at the same time.....it was late and he was tired......but both kids were perfect angels....not even kidding....I couldn't believe how well they behaved.
It was very nice. )

After the service we greeted the Bishop and Dad at the door.
Then we went next door for some punch and cookies.

Cole and Grandpa Coke

So while everyone was chatting and eating the boys and Chris found a game to play with.

Carter of course has to do everything Cole does...so here he is trying to help Cole play....

He is such a little explorer.

Here's the bunch...My Dad (holding Carter) Tamara, Me, Chris, Frank, Cole, Madison, and David

This was before we chased down Madison and David....it was perma-smile time.....

Then...we were ready to leave...but somehow David's keys were locked in his truck....and while Frank was trying to track down a hanger to unlock the door we piled into our car to stay warm...

because it was doing this outside.

They got the door opened and everything was well again and we all took off for home.

Valentine's Day!

Carter enjoying his hearts.

This is what the boys gave me. So sweet.

Cole's First Visit to the Dentist

Cole at the dentist for the first time. It's been a great week.
I'll post some pictures from our evening last night in Pocatello. It was my Dad's special night.

This is how we roll...

A Friday night at our house. Time: 7:15 pm
Ah....peaceful....

Chris and Cole put tons of fake dinosaur tattoo's all over Cole...they are on his chest and arms. Oy vey. I don't even attempt to intervene...it's "boy" stuff.

Saturday morning...watching Sesame Street

Sunday morning. This is what the boys in our house do for fun....they race laundry baskets around the house....I know you are all now very jealous of my special PINK blanket (that Cole believes is his....it's very soft). Thank you it is fabulous! That is courtesy of Trudy the quilter.

This is Chris' special trick.....
